With so many different insurance companies to choose from, the process of getting affordable coverage can become, well, overwhelming.

It’s vital that you find a secure and reputable company to purchase your insurance through. But with some of the biggest and best life insurance companies in the United States, how are you supposed to find the company that works for you? Luckily, we are here to help.

When shopping for life insurance, you want to choose a company that is likely to outlive you.

Lincoln Financial Group boasts more than 100 years of history. And its competitive policies just might fit your bill.

With a conservative investment portfolio and a user-friendly attitude, Lincoln Financial Group has positioned itself as a life insurance provider for the common man. They have simultaneously maintained a reputation for excellence in their history of financial management.

This company has been around and is likely to stick around. In this Lincoln Financial Review, we’ll cover their history, ratings, and policy types offered.

Lincoln Financial Reputation and Ratings

Lincoln Financial Group is a fiscally strong company with a long history. And they have earned an A+ AM Best Rating, which is only, “assigned to companies that have, in our opinion, a superior ability to meet their ongoing insurance obligations.”

In addition to long-term financial stability and overall company excellence, Lincoln Financial scores consistently high Better Business Bureau ratings. They have an A+ rating, in fact.

Lincoln Financial has been registered with the BBB since 1939. And you can track the history of their dispute resolution on the BBB website.

Here, we did the research for you. Only 10 customer complaints in the last three years were not resolved to the customer’s satisfaction, despite Lincoln Financial’s good faith efforts to meet the customer’s demands.

For as long as the company has been around, only having ten unresolved complaints is a notable achievement.

For anyone looking for a company that ensures quality coverage, Lincoln Financial is an excellent option.

Policy Types Offered

Lincoln Financial Life Insurance is available in three policy packages:

  • Term life insurance
  • Universal life insurance
  • Variable universal life insurance

The advantages of these three types of insurance policies revolve largely around their flexibility and low cost. This nestles consistently with Lincoln Financial Group’s branded image as the go-to life insurance company for the average Joe.

These policy categories work great for individuals in transitional phases of life. It includes those who may be tight on their budgets, and who need a short- to medium- range life insurance solution.

Maybe you have a little more money to invest in insurance. If so, Lincoln Financial offers a very large selection of additional insurance riders.

Another perk offered by Lincoln Financial is the available non-smoker rate for users of marijuana, chewing tobacco, and cigars. This is a rare concession in the insurance industry, offered by only one other company (Prudential).

With a lot of insurance companies, if you smoke cigars or use chewing tobacco, you’ll be grouped with the “smoking” category. This can have drastic impacts on your insurance premiums.

With other companies, being a cigar smoker is going to cause your rates to double, or sometimes triple. But Lincoln understands the differences in the types of smokers and tobacco users.

The policies are clearly explained on the Lincoln Financial Group website in an extensive customer learning center.

But the best advantage of all to Lincoln Financial Life Insurance has got to be the cost. Their competitive rates are some of the best in the industry.

Disadvantages

What Lincoln Financial Group does not provide is an option for a whole life policy.

This omission is unfortunate for those who are looking for whole life insurance. Although I generally recommend term for most people. And I recommend Universal Life if you do want a permanent life insurance policy that is cheaper than whole life.

Some life insurance companies will offer the option for you to convert your term life insurance to a whole life policy during the course of the insured period. Be aware that Lincoln Financial Group does not, but you can convert to a Universal Life policy.

The internet will provide many anecdotal stories submitted by individuals who are angry and dissatisfied with their experience in an insurance program offered by Lincoln Financial Group. This is the case with most insurance carriers.

Our advice: carefully filter who you are listening to on internet review boards. And rely on the BBB business ratings as a reliable, confirmed source for documented disputes and their resolution.

There are going to be unhappy customers REGARDLESS of which company you use. You will not be able to find a company that doesn’t have some type of negative review on the Internet.

You should take notice of those reviews, especially if you see similar complaints pop up. But take those with a grain of salt.

Getting the Best Rates

The main aspect that most applicants look for when searching for a life insurance plan, is getting the most affordable policy.

If you want to get the cheapest life insurance possible, you’ll want to pick a term insurance plan, but that isn’t the only thing you can do to get cheap insurance.

Although this isn’t specific to Lincoln only, a few ways you can improve your rates are to minimize any health risks you have. This might mean cleaning up your diet a little or implementing a daily exercise regimen. In any case, something as little as a slight decrease in blood pressure or cholesterol can vastly improve your rates (not to mention weight loss).

And, of course, if you use any types of tobacco now, quitting can cut your costs by as much as two-thirds. Simply having to mark yourself as a smoker on the application results in some of the largest premium increases because of the long term health risks of smoking.

Lastly, comparing quotes from several different companies before you pick one may show you where additional savings lie.

Instead of spending hours on the phone talking to agents from various companies, let us do the work for you.

We are what you call independent agents, meaning we don’t work for just a single insurer. We work with lots, like a broker, and can do any amount of heavy lifting for you when it comes to getting quotes from many carriers all at once.
